Setting a laundry routine that works well for everyone might be a bit difficult in the beginning but it will be worth it in the end. Take time to review the current laundry routine. How can it become more efficient? What can the rest of the family do to help out?
Each family member should have a role in the laundry room. Even children as young as three are able to help out with sorting clean laundry and folding and putting away towels.
Begin by restructuring dirty laundry storage. Each bedroom and bathroom should have two hampers in it. One for light clothing and towels and one for dark ones. Each family member should be in charge of sorting their own laundry.
Set a linen cleaning schedule so that bed sheets and comforters aren’t all being washed at the same time. Make sure there is an extra set of sheets that can go on the bed as soon as the soiled ones are taken off.
To discuss changes, order dinner in one night, sit down and work out all the kinks of the new routine. Protests will be made, but laundry is a part of life. It’s nice for children to learn how to wash and dry clothing at a young age. After all, they’ll be doing it for quite a while!
Spring cleaning happens each year around this same time.
