Don’t use fabric softeners in the wash. In our last post, we mentioned that dryer sheets actually produce more static cling than they supposedly eliminate. The same holds true for fabric softeners. Because they’re chemically derived from volatile organic compounds, they’re not only unsafe to use, but add to the already annoying static cling issues you might have.

As an alternative, consider adding ½ a cup of baking soda to your wash cycle. This can help eliminate hard or stiff clothing, as well as deodorize them! If you must continue to use fabric softeners because you can’t imagine a world without them (and we understand that!) consider another alternative; plant-based fabric softeners. These softeners are unscented and have way fewer chemicals in them.

Line dry clothing. Using a dryer will most certainly add to your static cling issues, year-round. Instead of using the dryer to dry clothing and bedding, consider using an outdoor line! If you can’t line dry clothing, shake each item well, before throwing them into the dryer. Then, shake it well, once you take it out of the dryer, too. This will help keep wrinkles and static cling from setting in, after the items have cooled.
