More Laundry Tips and Tricks

Laundry Services Raleigh NC: Take advantage of our laundry tips and tricks!

Welcome back! Today, we are going to share more great laundry tips and tricks for the average household. Sometimes, laundry problems are a hassle. It’s important to know all the secrets available to help you do your laundry with ease.

Dull Denim

Sometimes, our dark jeans can fad, especially on the seat of them.

To fix this unsightly issue, try spraying the dulled or faded areas of your jeans with vinegar. Don’t rinse the vinegar. Let it dry. Once it’s dry, you’ll never notice the dulled area at all!

Fade Scorch Marks

Scorching your clothing with the iron is something that happens to everyone. Even the most skilled and attentive of us have done it before.

If your iron got too hot while your hand lingered or mind wandered, fixing the scorched fabric by hanging it on a laundry line in the direct sunlight; the sunlight’s natural bleaching action will help to fade the scorch mark.

Dirt-Proof Tennis Shoes

Squeaky clean tennis shoes usually mean that they were just purchased. Days after their purchase, tennis shoes began to get dirty. It’s seems impossible to keep them clean. Or is it?

The canvases of shoes are hard to clean once they get dirty; but, you can prevent them from getting dirty!  If you prepare ahead of time, you can keep them looking like they came right out of the box.

According to Good Housekeeping, you can “Spray new canvas tennis shoes with starch before wearing them, and the dirt can’t become embedded in the fabric. The shoes will always be easy to clean, and no one will be able to guess that you’ve had them for years.”

Fixing Flannel Fabric

Also according to Good Housekeeping, “Stains on abrasive fabrics like flannel are every mom’s nightmare, because whatever you spill is locked in by the texture of the fabric. Don’t say bye-bye to that shirt just yet, because we’ve got a nightlight that’ll chase those bad dreams away.

For stubborn stains on flannel fabric, pour 1 egg yolk and 1 tablespoon glycerin into a deep, wide-mouthed plastic cup, mix them together using a fork (the way you whisk milk into raw eggs to make scrambled eggs) and smear the mixture onto the stain. Wait about 30 minutes for it to loosen the stain and then launder the item as usual.”

Laundry Tips and Tricks!

Our Raleigh Laundromat offers laundry tips and tricks for all types of fabrics!

Laundry tips and tricks are always needed . There’s always something that aquires a stain, odd smell, or problem, without you even realizing it.  What you might not know, is that there are  solutions to problems like the seat of dark jeans dulling or loosing your lint roller.

There are many tips and tricks to use when trying to do laundry and remove stains.  Below, you’ll find great ways to eliminate laundry issues without any trouble at all!

Save Your Dyed Whites

Have you washed your new red shirt with a load of whites or light colors? If so, we’ve all done it! Don’t worry. We can fix this problem!

Before putting any of the newly colored pink clothing in the dryer:

Soak the damp clothes in a solution of baking soda and warm water with 1/2 cup salt and 1/2 cup detergent added to it. Use your favorite detergent to wash as usual.  The combo of the soaking mixture and detergent will turn your whites white again!

Drying Out Shoe Odors

Ridding shoes of dampness from foot perspiration can help prevent odor and lengthen the life of the shoes. Whenever you’ve take off a pair of shoes for the day, slip a few small pieces of white chalk into each shoe to help absorb the moisture.

For an easy, non-messy way to move the chalk pieces in and out of your shoes, consider wrapping them in small scraps of cheesecloth and tying the tiny bundles with twist ties.

Another way to remove moisture and odor from shoes is to crumple newspaper up and place it inside your shoes when they aren’t being worn. For best results, use fresh newspaper and leave them overnight!

Remove Smoke Odors

Smoke can cling to clothing, even if you aren’t the smoker. To remove the smoke odor, soak the clothing in hot water, in the bathtub. Add two cups of white vinegar. Soak the clothing in the vinegar and water for at least 10 minutes. Then, wring out the garments and hang over the shower rod. Allow the hot water to steam the vinegar soaked clothing to remove the smell of smoke, without ruining the fabric. Whether you’re a smoker or not, you can probably agree that one aggravating aspect of tobacco is the odor that clings to everything. The smell of smoke will come right out of most fabrics when you wash them as normal, but fabrics that lock in odors and are sensitive to washing, like wool, are a bit trickier.

Natural Spot Remover

A Natural Spot Remover Remedy From Laundry Express!

Have you stained your favorite white blouse or T-shirt? Are you worried that it’s gone forever; nothing will remove the stain? Depending on the type of stain, and how bad it is, there are a few natural stain removal methods that might help! Natural stain removers are often more powerful than the kind you purchase in the store. They’re also Eco-friendly and non-toxic, when used properly!

Laundry Service, Raleigh NC | Natural Stain Remover

Rust stains: Remove as much of the stain as possible, before treatment. Soak the stain in lemon juice. Sprinkle salt directly onto the lemon juice. Let the mixture react overnight then rinse it with cool water. Do not use hot water. If the stain hasn’t been removed yet, the hot water will set the stain.  Repeat these steps if the stain remains.

Grass or ink stains: Saturate the stain with cheap vodka and wash as usual.

Perspiration stains: Yellowed spots on your whites usually come from perspiration.  Most think that these stains are impossible to remove! Scrubbing the spots with baking soda and water will do the trick!

Mix together, four tablespoons of baking soda and a dab of water. The goal is to make a paste that’s easy to apply and scrub.  After scrubbing the stain with the mixture,  let it sit for 5 minutes. Then, launder as you normally would.  Then launder as usual.

Red wine stains: Immediately pour salt on the stain to absorb the moisture. Let the salt work into the fabric, then scrape it away. Next, blot the stain with liberal amounts of club soda.

For all other stains, try dabbing the area with lemon juice, vinegar or hydrogen peroxide.

A natural stain remover is easy, Eco-friendly, and much more cost effective than other, store bought stain removers. If you’re pressed for time, and need stains removed, quickly, remember Raleigh Laundromat, Laundry Express. Our Raleigh laundry service experts can help you remove your stains easily, and efficiently.

Stain Remover for Set in Stains

Many people already know that grease-fighting dish soap will help with grease stains on clothing and other fabrics. What most don’t know, is that you can use the grease-fighting dish soap with a few other ingredients, to make a spot remover for set in stains!

It sounds too good to be true, but it’s not! This easy method takes no time to whip up and even less time to work on tough, set in stains.

Spot Remover for Set in Stains | Coin Laundry Raleigh NC

You will need:

  • one part Dawn dishwashing liquid soap
  • two parts hydrogen peroxide
  • 1-2 tablespoons of baking soda for extra scrubbing power

To use:

  • Mix all the ingredients together in a small bowl.
  • Use  a small brush to scrub the mixture into the stained area. Rinse, if  desired. Launder as usual.
  • For tough stains, you can let the mixture sit on the garment for an hour or  so, then launder as usual. Or treat the area a few times before laundering.

Should you have a stain that leaves it’s mark, after you’ve left the mixture an hour or longer, and laundered it, try using a bit more of the mixture. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes and then launder, again. It should definitely be stain free, at this point!

It is a good idea to try this mixture on an inconspicuous part of the fabric or material you intend to clean, before cleaning the spot. Hydrogen peroxide can bleach certain types of fabric. If the test spot isn’t harmed after 20-30 minutes, you’re safe to continue using your spot remover for the set in stain!

If spot cleaning stains isn’t something you’d like to try to tackle at home, consider bringing your stained items to Coin Laundry, Laundry Express! We will wash and dry all your clothing items, bedding, and tablecloths! Sometimes, washing large pieces of fabric at home is difficult with just one washer!
