Ways to Remove Pet Hair From Fabric!

Coin-op Laundry Raleigh NC: Don’t Fret Pet Hair; Use These Tips for Removal!

Most of us love our pets. Laundry Express, a coin-op laundry in Raleigh NC sure loves pets!! They’re more than just a pet, they are members of the family and they are normally with us for the better part of a decade or more. Pets become children, siblings, and best friends. 90% of the time they rule the house.

They reign, so much so, that you can find evidence of them EVERYWHERE! Stray hairs sticking to the throw pillows, tufts of hair on your clothing. It can become a major chore to get the pet hair up; especially if you have a long-haired dog or cat, or an animal with a tendency to shed.

Thankfully, there are many ways to remove pet hair that’s been shed by our beloved pets! Dogs and cats alike, this method will work, almost every time!

In many cases, washing cotton, polyester, or other easily laundered clothing, will remove pet hair with no problem. Sometimes, though, certain fabrics refuse to let the hair go, leaving you with a flannel shirt or blanket full of fur.

In addition, fabrics that have a lot of static cling are the worst. Oftentimes, washing and drying an item that has static cling will only embed the hair even further.

Coin-op Laundry Raleigh NC | Remove Pet Hair From Clothing

The most effective way to remove pet hair from these types of items is by getting the bulk of the hair off before you launder it. Using things found on the list below can really help remove the hair beforehand.

  • Lint roller
  • Pet hair roller
  • Dry sponge
  • Microfiber pet hair mitt

Also, take the clothing, blanket, or other fabric that’s full of pet hair and shake it well outside before you wash it. Then, after it’s been washed, take it outside and shake it again before you dry it.

Even further reducing the amount of static cling can help remove pet hair, as well. Using a liquid fabric softener in the wash, and then a dryer sheet in the dryer will help eliminate the hair immensely.

After you’ve laundered your furriest fabrics (courtesy of your pets, of course!) be sure to wipe out the washing machine and clean out the lint trap from the dryer before you began washing and drying another load!

Laundry Express understands a love for pets. They’re the highlight of our lives! If your pets have beds, pillows, blankets, or other items that could use a nice launder, remember our coin-op laundry in Raleigh NC. We can wash and dry your pet beds, get the hair out, and leave them smelling clean and fresh in no time! Contact us for more information!

Laundry Tips for Perfect Laundry Loads

Welcome back! In our last post we shared a few ways to ensure you’re doing your laundry properly. With the help from author Joey Green, we are able to learn to like laundry – at least a little bit!

Wash-Dry-Fold Raleigh NC: Perfect Laundry Loads!

Below, you’ll find a few more tips to help you learn the proper way to do laundry:

Don’t overstuff. Full loads save on energy and water. It’s important to ensure that each load is a full load. It’s not, however, a good idea to fill your washer so full that it has trouble getting the clothing inside clean and rinsed. Top loaders can only handle about 16 lbs of clothing. Front loaders can hold a little more, at 20lbs. Though most of us don’t weigh our laundry, it is a good idea to only fill the washer about 3/4s of the way to the top of the drum!

Add soap first.  It’s always important to add the detergent first. Allow it to dissolve in the water, and then add your clothing. The soap will be more effective if it has time to dissolve into the water. Otherwise, you might end up with residue on your freshly cleaned clothing!

Mark your measuring cup. According to Consumer Report, “liquid detergent caps are often impossible to read, leading to overdosing of detergents, which itself can leave detergent residues that make your clothes look dingy. Instead, mark the fill line with a permanent marker so it’s easy to see. When it comes to actual amounts, follow your machine manufacturer’s recommendations, not the detergent manufacturer’s.”

Soft water can require less soap than hard water. Sometimes, soft water needs a bit of baking soda combined with the detergent to help it dissolve better. Trial and error can help you determine what’s best for your water and your washer.

Learn How to do Laundry – The Right Way!

Coin-op Laundry Raleigh NC: A Laundry Lesson!

Though doing laundry seems simple and harmless, it is in fact complicated and can be terrible! It’s something that most people despise doing! It’s hard to get in the habit of not hating laundry chores. One of the reasons we hate laundry so according to author Joey Green, is because we don’t do it properly. He states that “When you’re sent out into the world, you go to a Laundromat and you put the quarters in, pour in the little box of soap, and then wonder why your clothes aren’t clean. But there’s a lot more to it than that.” He also states that we tend to over soap our laundry, overstuff the machines, and ignore stains. In addition, we never take the time to sufficiently separate colors and fabrics.

Coin-op Laundry Raleigh NC |  Fix your dingy clothing!

Doing these “no no’s” contribute to dingy clothing, waste of soap and the use of extra energy, money, and water.

Thankfully there are a few rules we can abide by when doing laundry that helps us save energy and get your clothes as clean as possible!

Soak stains immediately. According to Green, “When you get a stain on something, you have to deal with it immediately. If you let it dry, it’s permanent. That’s something a lot of people don’t realize.”

So, when a spill happens, leave the stained clothing in a bucket full of water with a bit of detergent in it. That way, when you have time you can treat the stain. The bucket full of water and detergent act as a pre-treatment. This works great for grass, juice, grease, and other hard to remove stains that set in quickly.

Learn how to sort. Sorting isn’t just getting the whites separated from the darks. It’s also about fabric type and water temps. Make 5 piles as you’re sorting through dirty laundry:

  • Whites
  • Darks
  • Brights
  • Delicates
  • Lights (things that aren’t completely white)

It’s also important to then separate any linty fabrics:

  • Towels
  • Flannels
  • Sweatshirts

Washing these linty items with smooth fabrics will cause then to pill. Getting rid of that little issues before it starts is a major way to take a step in the “laundry’s not so bad” direction!

Wash Away Your Winter Washing Blues!

Coin-op Laundry Raleigh NC: Wash away your winter washing blues with tips from our Raleigh Laundromat!

Welcome back! In our last post we talked about winter washing and how to avoid the winter washing blues! Today, our coin-op laundry in Raleigh NC, Laundry Express,  continue with the last few tips for great winter washing!

Coin-op Laundry Raleigh NC | From the Dryer to the Closet

It’s so easy to take nice, freshly dried clothes and put them straight into a laundry basket for later. Eventually, that one basket of clean clothes turns into 3 or 4, and the next you know you’re living out of a clean laundry basket! Instead of creating a mountain of clean clothes to fold and hang, try taking the clothing or towels straight from the dryer, hanging or folding them and putting them right up. No need for sorting and dealing with a mountain later on. Oftentimes, you can avoid ironing later, as well. Clothing that is hung up straight from the dryer rarely needs an iron!

Find a Sunny Spot!

In our last post, we advised you to either do laundry on sunny days to avoid overusing the dryer or to do laundry on snowy or rainy days, so that you can enjoy  leisure time on sunny days. If you have chosen to do laundry on sunny days, take some time to find a few sunny spots inside your home or out in the yard. Put your clothes racks there so you can lay clothing out to dry! It may take a few days of observing to find the perfect spot, but once you do, you can use it from now on!

Save Money

Find out when your off-peak power usage times are. If it’s possible, do your laundry during those times. If it falls at a random hour, think about plugging your washer and dryer into a timer device. That way, you can save money while you’re doing your washing! What better way to get motivated to do laundry than saving money?!

Hopefully, at this point, our Raleigh Laundromat has turned your winter washing blues into cheery winter washing! With these tips, laundry chores should go a bit smoother and be much less hectic!

If you are behind on your washing and need to get caught up quickly, be sure to take advantage of Laundry Express’s wash and fold machines! Our coin-op laundry in Raleigh NC facility is the biggest and best around. For more information, contact us!

More Winter Washing Tips

Fluff and Fold Raleigh NC: Winter Washing Tips Will Wash Away Winter Blues!

Welcome back! In our last post our Raleigh Laundromat offered a few ways to chase away winter laundry blues. There are many reasons why we hate laundry chores, but winter brings on a whole new set of reasons! With these tips, you’ll hopefully find a new outlook on winter washing, and find something positive in it. Below, you’ll find a few more winter washing tips:

Fluff and Fold Raleigh NC | Fun Washing Ritual

Yes, we know. No one thinks laundry is fun EVER. But what if you trained yourself to like it…at least sort of! Putting in place a laundry ritual can help. To help make laundry efforts a bit more fun, schedule your downtime for the day during the wash cycle. Take the time it takes to wash a load of clothes to read a magazine or watch an episode of your favorite TV show. You could even treat yourself to a cup of tea, play a game on your iPad, or have a bowl of cereal.

When you incorporate downtime during the wash or dry cycle, laundry doesn’t seem so bad, right? Try it. You’ll be surprised at how refreshed you feel after your short break!

Be Efficient

If you’re unsure about downtime during the wash or dry cycle, use this time to see how efficient you can be doing other things. Find out exactly how long the wash and dry cycle is, set a timer and do as much of your other house cleaning chores you can during that time. When the timer goes off, dry, hang, and fold as quickly and efficiently as you can. Don’t forget about it or you may have to rewash and lose other free time.

Include the Kids

Though it isn’t always efficient or organized, it’s sometimes fun to make laundry chores a family experience. Let the kids help! Make a game of it with rewards. You may be surprised at how much the kids will enjoy it.  They will also be learning responsibility at the same time. As we talked about in our previous post, it’s a good idea to follow the weather for your washing days. You could also help your child make a weather chart like this one to keep track of the best washing days and in addition, help them learn about the elements.

Laundry is never one of our favorite pastimes. Though we don’t love it, it doesn’t have to be the most miserable time of our lives, either. Use these tips, and the final few tips in our next post, to help you make laundry chores as easy and fun as possible!
