It should also be a time to clean your laundry room and make over your laundry routine. Below, you’ll find tips from our Raleigh Laundromat on how to clean your washer!

Top Loaders:

  1. Cleaning your top loading washing machine is simple, all you need is white vinegar and some cleaning cloths.
  2. Start by setting your washer to its hottest temperature, highest capacity and longest cycle.
  3. Add four cups of white vinegar to the hot water, close the lid and allow it to agitate for several minutes.
  4. Open the lid and allow it to sit for an hour while the vinegar gets rid of hidden bacteria within the washer.
  5. While the vinegar works for an hour, start cleaning the exterior of your washer.
  6. Take a microfiber cloth, dip it in the vinegar solution sitting in your washer, and wring it out.
  7. Wipe down the exterior, lid and control panel, taking care to not get it too wet.
  8. Carefully remove the bleach reservoir and wipe down around this area where scum and dirt tends to collect.
  9. Rinse your cloth and remove the softener reservoir from the agitator and wipe the exterior and interior of it as well.

Spring Clean Your Laundry Room!

Coin Laundry Raleigh NC: Spring Clean Your Laundry Room!

Warmer weather has popped up occasionally at this point and it seems that spring cleaning has begun. Spring cleaning consists of cleaning our homes from top to bottom and side to side; leaving nothing unturned or unwashed! One room that almost always gets neglected though is the laundry room. In addition, our laundry routine tends to fall by the wayside, as well! Thankfully, by taking just a few simple steps, you can spring clean your laundry room and laundry routine so that it will stay fresh and clean throughout the entire year! Our coin laundry in Raleigh NC  has a few easy tips to help spring clean your laundry room!

Appliances need a good cleaning every now and then, even our washers and dryers. Springtime is the best time to clean each and every appliance in your laundry room, whether you realize you need to clean it or not. The best place to start is with the iron. Even when used intermittently, the iron can’t function properly if it’s dirty. Below, you’ll find a few steps that will help ensure that your iron stays clean all year, no matter how many times it’s used!

Coin Laundry Raleigh NC | Spring Cleaning Tips

  1. First, make sure your iron is off and unplugged. Soak a paper towel in vinegar and lay the iron on it for five minutes. Then, start rubbing again to remove all buildup and stains.
  2. Place baking soda on the vinegar-soaked paper towel, lay the iron on top of the paper towel, and begin “ironing” the towel.  The baking soda acts as an abrasive, helping scrub the buildup and stains right off.
  3. For the stubborn areas, use a toothpick as backup to scrape buildup away!

If the iron is in terrible shape, skip the vinegar and go straight for the baking soda. Then, try to remember to clean it once every few months with the vinegar method, to maintain its shiny new-like appearance!

Spring cleaning your laundry room, appliances, and laundry routine will make you feel refreshed and renewed, as we enter into spring and summer! For more tips from our coin laundry in Raleigh NC, on how to spring clean your laundry room and laundry routine, visit back with Laundry Express soon!

Washing Winter Apparel, Continued.

In our past two posts, we offered a few tips on how and when to wash winter apparel. We talked about winter coats, sweatshirts, hats, gloves, and more! To take a look back at how these essential cold weather items need to be laundered visit here!

Today, our coin laundry in Raleigh is going to take a look at a more difficult type of winter coat. Many times, it’s hard to know when, how, or if you should even launder these types of coats.

Coin Laundry Raleigh NC: Leather and Suede Jackets

Wash times: Once a season.

Washing guidelines: The hides of leather and suede are pretty durable. They can take a cleaning better than we realize. Still though, it’s a very scary undertaking for someone who has never cleaned them before. It’s possible you’ve heard horror stories about leather getting wet and ruined. That’s why, even though you could probably clean these coats yourself at home, it’s often best to take them to an expert laundry specialist.

Laundry Express, coin laundry in Raleigh, can wash your coats at the end of every winter or spring. That way, you won’t have to worry about taking the right precautions or risk ruining your favorite jacket. In the meantime though, if you happen to get a few dirty spots on the coat, spot-cleaning stains immediately with a leather cleaner is perfectly fine. For suede it’s a good idea to get a suede brush and condition the coat every couple of weeks.

You can even prevent makeup and perfume from staining the collar of your leather by always wearing a scarf. Also, don’t overstuff the pockets. This leads to tears and a misshapen jacket. In addition, never store your leather jackets in plastic or bins. The leather will dry out and crack. They’re best left hanging on a hanger in the closet all year.

If you’d like to bring your winter apparel in for Laundry Express to launder, contact us! We can set up a drop off time, as well as a pick up time for you! We offer an expert stain specialist, as well as the best coin laundry in Raleigh NC. Don’t hesitate to let our Raleigh Laundromat help you get your laundry under control and clean in no time!

Washing Winter Apparel

Wash-Dry-Fold Raleigh NC: Washing Winter Apparel is Easy With The Instructions Below!

Welcome back! In our last post, we began discussing how and when to wash winter apparel that we don’t wear often. To take a look back at our last post, visit here.

Today, we are going to take a look at a few essentials for extremely cold weather. Without them, our hands and heads would freeze! The question is,  how often should we wash them? Even in extreme cold, we don’t wear them as much as normal clothing.

Wash-Dry-Fold Raleigh NC | Hats, Gloves, and Scarves

Wash times: three to five times a season.

Washing guidelines: Oftentimes, these articles of clothing are ignored and never washed. It’s possible that each time you wear them, it’s only for 10-30 minutes at a time. Though they are only being worn for short periods of time, they do tend to get dirty anyway. Facial oil, makeup, perfume and germs can easily buildup on these winter essentials. Try to launder them at least three times a season, five if you wear them more than average.

How? Hand wash all knits. Dry-clean leather gloves and structured hats.

Never store gloves in coat pockets. “The glove linings get damp from your hand perspiration and need to air out. Otherwise, they could smell like mildew,” says Lindsey Wieber Boyd, a cofounder of the Laundress, a line of cleaning products.

Hosiery – How often you should wash them: After every wear.

Washing guidelines: Hosiery is very much like socks. They serve the same purpose, anyway. It’s important to hand wash them each time they’re worn, and then hang them to air dry.

Do you have problems snagging your nylons? To avoid this common mishap, place each pair into its own zip locked plastic bag, along with the packaging sleeve. That way, you’ll always know what brand, color, and size you have quickly without taking each pair out to inspect before wearing.

Washing winter apparel can be a confusing thing to figure out. Many times, that confusion leads to skipping the washing altogether.  That’s never a good idea, but it is possible to allow someone to do the washing for you!

Our wash-dry-fold in Raleigh NC will wash your winter apparel for you! We offer a drop off and pick up service for all your laundry needs. Once a month during winter, especially on a “warmer” day, gather up the family stock of coats, jackets, hats, sweatshirts, and any other frequently worn items during cold weather. When to Wash Winter Apparel

With winter weather in full swing, it might be time to take some time and launder those items we’ve been constantly wearing during the cold and snowy weather. Below, our Raleigh Laundromat gives you a few tips on how to launder those hard to wash cold weather items.

Down Parkas and Vests- How often should they be washed? Twice a season.

Washing guidelines: Over-washing down causes the feathers to break. Machine wash puffy outerwear in cold water with a non-detergent product, since detergents and dry cleaning can flatten the down feathers.

After washing it’s a good idea to let it tumble dry on low with three clean tennis balls to redistribute the feathers. This will “prevent the down from clumping, make sure the coat is totally dry, even if it takes several cycles,” according to the director of quality assurance for North Face apparel company.

Fleece Jackets and Sweatshirts- How often should they be washed? After six wears.

Washing guidelines: Sweatshirts are low-maintenance and can be washed and dried according to the care label. Fleece requires extra care. To keep the nap smooth and soft, turn the garment inside out and wash it with like colors. Refrain from washing fleece with towels or other items that have a ton of lint.  Be sure to rinse fleece twice, before taking it out of the washer, so there’s no detergent residue. Air-dry.

If the fleece has a water-resistant finish, avoid fabric softeners. They will diminish the effectiveness of the fabric.

Quick Tip: The easiest way to remove stubborn pet hair? Wipe down fleece with a wet rubber glove

It’s important to keep winter apparel in great condition. We only use it for a few months each year. If they’re kept in good condition and laundered properly, they will last for 5-10 years.
