Tips For Reducing Static Cling, Naturally!

Fluff and Fold Raleigh NC: Reduce Static Cling!

Welcome back! Our fluff and fold in Raleigh NC is back with a few more tips on dealing with static cling naturally! In our last post we talked about how annoying static cling can be during fall and winter. We also offered a few tips for getting rid of static charges in and around your home, when possible! Today, we have a few more tips!

Though we all love them, it’s best to ditch dryer sheets if you have a problem getting rid of static cling. Laundry product companies have conditioned us to believe that we need to buy dryer sheets to get rid of static. Sadly, that isn’t the case. In fact, research from the University of Washington found the sheets spewed toxic chemicals and caused breathing problems and irritated skin. To save money and protect your health while knocking out static in your clothing, add ¼ cup of white vinegar to your wash’s rinse cycle.

If you make the decision to stop using dryer sheets, you might want to consider banishing fabric softeners, as well. Chemical fabric softeners do help to get rid of static cling in clothes, but research has found they also contaminate your indoor air quality. Many common, scented fabric softeners emit plastic chemicals and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that can lead to hormone disruption, inflammation, and respiratory problems. If you want to keep using fabric softeners, forget the conventional brands and look for unscented, plant-based ones as an alternative. For an all-natural alternative that’s cheap, try adding ½ cup of baking soda to your wash cycle, to help reduce static cling and freshen your laundry even more!

Another great tip? Hanging your clothes out to dry on a clothes line outside will help immensely! If you can’t hang your clothing out on a line to dry, shake each item out as soon as you pull them from the dryer to prevent static from setting in.

Natural Remedies to Your Clothing’s Static Cling!

Wash Dry Fold Raleigh NC: Remove Static Cling, Naturally!

If you’re like our wash-dry-fold in Raleigh,NC you know that there’s nothing worse than dealing with static cling. Annoying and sometimes embarrassing, static can really give you an irritating issue come early fall and even into winter. Of course, there are store-bought static solutions you can add to your laundry wash, but those contain chemicals that may contaminate your indoor air and clothing. They can also lead to breathing problems. Luckily, there are alternatives. Below, our wash-dry-fold in Raleigh NC has a few tips on how to avoid static cling when at all possible.

Remove positive household charges, if possible:

  • Synthetic clothing
  • Toys
  • Plastics

There are also a few building materials that cause a static problem. Vinyl is the worst. Any type of modern materials that are well-known for their susceptibility to electrostatic charges should be avoided as well, if you have a serious problem with static cling.

While it’s probably not feasible to remove each and every static charging item from your home, it is wise to avoid mixing household items that carry a charge with building materials that also have a strong charge. For example, a home with vinyl-siding, filled with plastic toys, synthetic carpeting, tons of electronics, and polyester clothing or drapery is sure to harbor more static electricity than a brick home with wooden floors scattered with natural-fiber accent rugs and closets filled with wool and cotton clothing.

While replacing your siding on a whim isn’t an option, it is possible to replace bedding and other materials in your home for wool, cotton, or linen items. Steer clear of rayon, acetate, acrylic, nylon, and polyester in order to naturally reduce static cling!

If you tend to have a static cling issue during fall and winter months, do be sure to check back with us on our next post! Our wash-dry-fold in Raleigh NC will be back with more tips to help you reduce static naturally, without all the harsh chemicals!

Quick Fixes for Laundry Emergencies

Welcome back! Our wash-dry-fold in Raleigh NC is back with more laundry quick fixes! This time most of the fixes below are for emergencies! They’ll help you out in a pinch, when you think you have no other option but to throw the item away! Also, we’ve included a few tips that will help you be proactive, so that you may not encounter situations that need a quick fix!

Wash Dry Fold Raleigh NC: Quick Fixes for Emergencies

  • Ink should be treated immediately with hairspray.
  • Hydrogen peroxide works well for blood stains. Be careful with hydrogen peroxide, as it can lighten dark colors. It’s best to be quick when using hydrogen peroxide.
  • 409 degreaser spray can fix a great deal of hard to treat stains! You can use the 409 spray to get makeup and other stains out of fine, expensive materials without damaging the garment. It works well not only on clothing, but also on carpet stains.
  • Bleach is a great way to get stains out of a white garment. It’s important to be careful when using bleach, as it can disintegrate the threads of fabric. Dilute the bleach when working with it and never put it directly on clothing.

Pre-Problem Quick Fixes | Wash Dry Fold Raleigh NC

  • Spray shoes with scotchgard when they’re new in order to help them last longer.
  • Use stain repellent for clothing. You can purchase an ironing starch that has a stain repellent in it.
  • Use a SPF wash to help shield your clothing from the sun. Lasting for 20 washes the SPF wash will help to keep clothing’s color intact, even when it spends a great deal of time out in the blazing sun of summer!

Our wash-dry-fold in Raleigh NC hopes that these quick fixes and pre-problem quick fixes will help you lessen your laundry load this summer! Laundry Mishaps: Quick Fixes!

Coin-op Laundry Raleigh NC: Quick Fixes for Your Laundry Mishaps!

Have you ever had a laundry mishap and not known what to do? Our Coin-op laundry in Raleigh NC sure has! That’s why we’ve come up with a few quick fixes that should help you out in a pinch!

Quick Fix – Smelly Laundry

Add a quarter to a half cup of vinegar to your laundry rinse. The vinegar acts as a softener and it can help get rid of moldy, sour type smells. It is also good to put the vinegar treated wash through an extra rinse cycle. You can also soak super smelly clothing in a solution of baking soda and water. This baking soda “soak” is good for clothing items that have a horrible smoke smell. Once treated in the baking soda soak, you can put the item through a regular wash cycle. The vinegar treatment or the baking soda treatment can also help freshen up your washing machine tub.

Quick Fix – Buttons, Hems, and More

Buttons- Keep a stash of safety pins to use for button emergencies! When your button pops off you can take a safety pin on the back side of the button and attach it from the inside of the lapel.  This doesn’t always work with every button, though.  Success depends on the type of button you have.

Rips, loose hems and seams – If you look in the women’s lingerie department at most discount stores you’ll find double stick tape or fashion tape.   The double stick fashion tape is great for when your hem is coming apart or you’ve just discovered a rip in your skirt, as you’re walking out the door. It’s a good idea to carry the special tape with you at all times. It works for these and many other clothing emergencies!

If you have a button emergency, use the double stick tape for an emergency fix!  According to laundrymom.com, “Carefully button your garment, and place the double stick tape where the button was. Then, place the button hole right over where the button should be. Squish the button hole together while you place it on top of the tape. The button hole should be carefully placed over the tape and you won’t even notice there is a button missing.”

For a few more quick fixes, be sure to visit back with our coin-op laundry in Raleigh NC!
