Get Your Closets Ready For Warm Weather Clothing!

Welcome back! Our coin laundry in Raleigh is here with a few more tips that will help you get your closet ready for the upcoming fall and winter seasons! While it might be no fun to do so, getting your closet cleaned out and organized now is much better than waiting until you have nothing to wear in the less-than-warm temps that fall can bring!

Coin Laundry Raleigh: Get Your Closets Ready For Warm Weather Clothing!

  • Before you wash and dry your clothing, be sure to go through each and every item. Look for damaged clothing, missing buttons, or holes. Discard any items that have damages. It’s better to do this now, than later. It can save time in the long run.
  • As you are looking for damaged clothing, also look for clothing you no longer wear regularly. Of course, there are a few essential wardrobe pieces we don’t wear often but need for special occasions, but it’s important to eliminate any basics that you don’t wear often enough. If you didn’t wear it at all during that particular season, donate it!
  • Be sure to keep out key transitional pieces that will help the summer to fall weather change be a bit more bearable. Remember that cool mornings and evenings often accompany blazing hot days. Keep a few short sleeved shirts or tanks that can easily be covered with a sweater. Also, be sure to keep out any shoes that might be useful during a transitional weather pattern.
  • When you’re ready, pack all clothing and bedding in an air-tight, plastic container. Anything else will allow unwanted pests into your clothing.
  • If at all possible, keep clothing and bedding stored in a place that you can easily reach, should you need something stored in the containers quickly.

Prepare Your Closet For Fall

Summer isn’t over yet, but fall is obviously around the corner! Cooler temps are upon us and it’s giving everyone the itch for fall! Pumpkins, baked goods, shorter days, and everything else that comes with fall is glorious! After a scorching summer, autumn is always a nice breath of fresh air.

What most hate about summer’s end though, is the obligation to get your home ready for the upcoming cold weather. Winterizing your home, checking for maintenance issues and repairs, cleaning the gutters, reinforcing windows and doors and more can become tedious and tiresome.

As you’re enjoying the last bits of summer, make sure that your home is prepared for the coming fall season. Preparation for fall often includes switching out your spring/summer wardrobe for a fall/winter one. It can also include switching out bedding, curtains, and other seasonal items.

Prepare Your Closet for Fall | Coin-Op Laundry Raleigh NC

When preparing for a season change, it’s best to follow a few tips our coin-op laundry in Raleigh NC has put together to make the transition as easy as possible!

  • Always make sure you group your seasonal items into two groups only. A spring/summer group and a fall/winter group. Having more than that will get very tricky when trying to store and sort.
  • As you put away spring/summer clothing and bedding be sure to clean them, even if you think they’re OK. Pests love to feed on dead skin cells that might be lurking on your clothing or bedding, clean or not. The last thing you want to do is have to replace your wardrobe or bedding at the beginning of a season! Be proactive and clean all items before storing them for the upcoming seasons.

Brighten Whites With Ease!

Welcome back! In our last post, our fluff and fold in Raleigh NC began offering tips to help you brighten your whites, after they’ve yellowed from multiple washings. It’s tough to get rid of our beloved clothing. We grow attached to them, especially when they fit perfectly! Thankfully, with the tips below, you’ll be able to keep your favorite white clothing articles clean, fresh, and bright!

Fluff and Fold Raleigh NC: Brighten Whites With Ease!

Are you looking for an easy way to brighten your whites without the use of bleach? Try taking the old-fashioned approach! Use a bit of mineral washing soda (found at the local grocery store near the baking soda) to presoak white items in. A teaspoon or two should do the trick. Add the washing soda to at least 1 gallon of water. You can soak items in a pan, the bathtub, or add a half a cup of the washing soda to the washer before you start it.

You can even use another mineral cleaning agent called Borax. Use a half a cup of it with a gallon of water and then add it to your washing cycle. As we’ve reported in the past, white vinegar is also a great addition to your washing cycle. Add a cup or less (depending on the size of your load) and marvel at how nicely your whites come out!  If you’d like to go the extra mile, add lemon juice to the rinse cycle. This will not only brighten whites, but also remove those pesky, hard to wash stains!

For another Eco-friendly, natural approach while summer heat still lingers, try hanging white towels or clothes outside to dry. The fabrics will benefit from natural sun bleaching. You can also purchase white brighteners at the store. Considered laundry additives, these brighteners will boost your whites without bleach.

Brighten Your Whites!

Wash-Dry-Fold Raleigh NC: Brighten Your Whites!

Eventually, all our favorite whites get yellowed and dingy looking with time and multiple washings Thankfully, there are a few ways to brighten up our whites so that we can wear them time and time again! Below, our wash-dry-fold in Raleigh NC offers the best techniques for keeping whites as bright as possible!

Brighten Whites | Wash-Dry-Fold Raleigh NC

  • Bleach. While it’s always a great whitener, it’s best to be careful.  Using bleach too often can cause your clothes to thin. It will also cause tiny holes that no one likes to see in their favorite shirt!
  • Baking Soda. A way to go Eco-friendly is by adding a bit of baking soda to your wash cycle. Baking soda can eliminate odors and boost whiteness. A double bonus!
  • Whitening Products. These powders great to use! They are oxygenated and help restore the whites to their original color!
  • Prewash Spray. Spot treatment is the best way to get stains out of whites, before washing. Just pre-treat, wash and then before you dry, check to make sure the stain was removed. Drying the item with the stain still visible will result in a permanent spot. Just rewash any items that stains weren’t removed from the first time around.

Reduce Time Spent in the Laundry Room!

Today, our Raleigh Laundromat is here to offer a few tips that will help you reduce your time spent in the laundry room this summer, giving you more time to enjoy the weather and outdoors!

Laundry Tips | Raleigh Laundromat

  1. Sort your clothing the moment you take it off. Have separate hampers for light and dark clothing as well as one for towels. Your children should have a hamper of their own, so you can keep their clothes separate from everyone else’s.
  2. Empty pockets and remove belts, suspenders, and anything else just before you place the clothes in the hamper. This will cut down the time you spend inspecting each piece as you put the clothing in the washer. Express the importance of removing toys, candy, and other items from your child’s clothing so laundry accidents don’t occur.
  3. Pre-treat laundry as soon as it gets stained. This will prevent you from having to wash the garment multiple times, or worse having to toss it out.
  4. Check children’s clothing before they undress at the end of the day so you can help prevent overlooking a stain.
  5. Adjust the settings on the washer, if possible, to make the cleansing more time efficient.
  6. Choose the lowest water setting you can and avoid a second rinse unless it’s really needed. The less time the clothing is in the washer, the quicker it will be dry and back in your closet!
  7. Set a timer to keep with you as you wash and dry the laundry. Some machines have a timer built in, but it may be difficult to hear if you aren’t near the utility room when it goes off. The timer will also prevent you from checking on the clothing too early, wasting time that you could be focusing on your family (or another chore!) Set the dryer to the appropriate times and fabric choices so that it dries your laundry in the least amount of time needed. Children’s clothing (minus denim) will take less time to dry than adult clothing, coats, and jeans. Keep this in mind when deciding how long to let the dryer run before you check it.
  8. Remove the dried laundry from the dryer and take it to the respective rooms to fold. If your children are old enough, have them fold and put away their own clothes to save you time. Fold the laundry as soon as it’s removed from heat or else you’ll be spending time later ironing or tumbling it in the dryer.
