Static Cling Reducing Tips!

coin-op laundry raleigh ncWelcome back! In our last post, we began talking about the dreaded static cling that comes with winter! Though we can’t totally eliminate it, there are ways to reduce it, greatly, by using more natural alternatives during our daily laundry chores.

Below, our coin-op laundry in Raleigh NC offers a few more tips that help reduce static cling! If you missed our previous post, be sure to go back and read it, soon! You won’t want to miss out on that fantastic static cling reducing tip!

Reducing Static Cling | Coin-Op Laundry Raleigh NC

Don’t use fabric softeners in the wash. In our last post, we mentioned that dryer sheets actually produce more static cling than they supposedly eliminate. The same holds true for fabric softeners. Because they’re chemically derived from volatile organic compounds, they’re not only unsafe to use, but add to the already annoying static cling issues you might have.

As an alternative, consider adding ½ a cup of baking soda to your wash cycle. This can help eliminate hard or stiff clothing, as well as deodorize them! If you must continue to use fabric softeners because you can’t imagine a world without them (and we understand that!) consider another alternative; plant-based fabric softeners. These softeners are unscented and have way fewer chemicals in them.

Line dry clothing. Using a dryer will most certainly add to your static cling issues, year-round. Instead of using the dryer to dry clothing and bedding, consider using an outdoor line! If you can’t line dry clothing, shake each item well, before throwing them into the dryer. Then, shake it well, once you take it out of the dryer, too. This will help keep wrinkles and static cling from setting in, after the items have cooled.

For more information on reducing static cling naturally, be sure to visit back with our coin-op laundry in Raleigh NC. We have a few more tips you’ll be happy to try out this winter when static cling is at it’s worst!

Ways to Remove Static Cling!

laundryFall is here and with that comes cooler mornings and evenings! Pretty soon, we will all be bundling up for the entire day, as cold weather sets in during winter! While we might enjoy the colder weather for a change, there’s one thing that most people hate; static cling!

Thankfully, our Raleigh Laundromat has a way to get rid of static cling, even if you’re dealing with it year round! Below, you’ll find a few tips that will greatly reduce the wretched issues and keep your clothing (and hair) free from static!

Eliminate positive household charges. All types of clothing toys, building materials, and more can really cause an electrostatic charge. While we must live with these things, there are a few things we can do to reduce static cling during winter, when it’s at its worst.

When it’s time to replace bedding, toys, clothing, and more, be sure to choose the following materials to help cut down on static cling:

  • Wool
  • Cotton
  • Linen
  • Silk

Steer clear of anything made from:

  • Acrylic
  • Nylon
  • Rayon
  • Polyester
  • Acetate

These types of materials harbor electrostatic charges all the time, but they’re worse come winter! If you can’t go out and buy a new wardrobe, bedding, and more (which we totally understand!) Consider removing the items below from your daily activities and laundry chores:

Never use dryer sheets. Believe it or not, dryer sheets actually make static cling worse; especially during winter. Even more, they have toxic chemicals in them that can cause irritation and breathing problems! Instead of dryer sheets, use a ¼ cup of white vinegar to your clothes and bedding, as they’re washing! You’ll be surprised at the difference!

Laundry Tips!

Welcome back! Today we have more great tips to help you lessen your laundry load and ensure clothing gets clean and fresh, the first time around!

Coin-Op Laundry Raleigh NC: Correct Measuring

How many of you just quickly fill the measuring cup and throw detergent in the washer without really paying attention to the amount you’re putting in? Many of us do this. Believe it or not, most complementary measuring lids or cups that come with most detergents aren’t easy to read and can really cause you to over or under do it, even when you’re carefully measuring.

While under-cleaning your garments can lead to dirty clothes that need another washing, over-cleaning with detergent can cause clothing to look dingy and leave residues; even if you put the detergent in the washer first!

To ensure you use the right amount, follow the manufacturer’s recommendation on your washing machine and then mark your cup or lid to the exact fill line you need. That way, you’ll know exactly how much you’re using!

In addition, hard or soft water can affect the amount of detergent you need, as well. Hard water needs at least the full amount recommended. Soft water normally takes less detergent. Hard water could also use a water softener to help with washing. Baking soda can act as a water softener. Using equal parts detergent and baking soda is a nice starting place. You can adjust from there if you think it’s too much or too little.

Cold Water | Coin-Op Laundry Raleigh NC

According to the Department of Energy, 90 percent of the energy used for washing clothes in a conventional top loader is used to heat the water. Even more, warm water causes clothing colors to bleed onto each other. Cold water keeps that from happening.

For more tips from our coin-op laundry in Raleigh NC, be sure to visit back with us soon, as we will feature a new blog series that helps us all get rid of static cling! With cooler weather moving in, we all know what that means! Static, static, static!

Cut Down on Laundry Loads!

Welcome back! Our coin laundry in Raleigh NC is back with a few more tips that will help you make the most of your laundry chores and hopefully cut down on having to rewash! If you missed our previous posts, visit back, soon!!

Coin Laundry Raleigh NC: Overstuffing

Washing full loads is great for large households and saving water, but there’s a big difference between full loads and overstuffed loads! Overstuffing leads to a load of problems. The clothing doesn’t get clean, the washer can start malfunctioning, the spin cycle can’t keep up, etc. In order to make sure you’re not overstuffing your washer, take note of these helpful tips:

  • Top loading washing machines are able to handle up to 16 pounds of clothing.
  • Front loading washing machines are equipped to handle up to 20 pounds of items.
  • Fill your washer only three quarters of the way to the top of the drum if you aren’t weighing your clothing to ensure that you don’t overfill!

Soap Dispensing

It’s a common practice for those that are washing to add the clothes and then the soap. In reality, that’s not the best practice. Adding soap and then clothing allows the detergent to dissolve in the water. Then, when your clothes are added, they’ll not only get cleaner, they’ll be less likely to come out without a residue left from poor soap dispersion.

Boosters | Coin Laundry Raleigh NC

Borax or washing soda works great to whiten clothing, soften water, and deodorize laundry, in general. Adding them together is great, but even only adding one can make a world of difference in your laundry load. Use a half a cup each, per load to make sure they don’t end up dissolving and clumping.

Making sure you do whatever it takes to cut down on laundry chores is key with a houseful! We hope these tips, and the tips in our next post, will help you cut down loads and keep clothing as clean as possible!
