Back To School Laundry Tips

It’s been a long hot summer here in the triangle area.  Kids have had endless fun in the pool, at the theme parks, riding bikes, and just being lazy on their summer school break.  All that fun is about to come to an end however as the school year is gearing up.  Along with a cool new backpack, and new school supplies kids will also be shopping for new clothes.  With a new school year and new clothes will come the inevitable stains only pens, pencils, crayons and markers can bring.  Today’s blog post will help address some of these stains and how to deal with this type of laundry problem.

The biggest problem you will find when it comes to children’s laundry is that they leave all kinds of things in their pockets.  The longer these items remain hidden away the worse it will be to clean the stains.  Trust us, It is much easier when you teach them to point out stains while they are fresh.   Immediate pre-treatment of your stained items is important.  The following are some great tips for getting those back to school stains out of your children’s clothes.

Tips | Raleigh Laundromat

  • If you determine the stain to be from a regular pencil the removal is easy.  It can be removed the same way you remove a pencil mark on paper.  Keep a clean eraser in your laundry arsenal.  Use it to rub the pencil mark off the item.  Once you have it removed apply some liquid laundry detergent and rub it in.  Rinse the detergent out and then you may launder the item as usual in your washing machine.
  • If you determine the stain to be from a crayon this to is easy to remove.  Apply a liquid laundry detergent to the area covering it completely and then allow the item to sit overnight.  Launder as usual and before drying make certain stain has been removed.  If needed repeat the steps.
  • The worst stain to remove is one from ink.  This type of stain is more time consuming and may require lots of patience. Round up some paper towels or a terry cloth towel.  You will also need some dry cleaning solvent or rubbing alcohol.  Take a good look at the care label of the garment to be certain you won’t harm the fabric. Using a paper towel or a cloth apply the dry cleaning solvent or rubbing alcohol onto the stain directly.  You will then use a clean towel or cloth to dab the stain until there is no ink left.  Rinse well and then you will rub some liquid detergent into the stain area. Launder in the hottest water temperature that is safe for the item. Repeat as necessary.  Make sure you do not dry the garment until you are certain the stain is gone.  Doing so will set the stain and make it almost impossible to remove.
  • Take some time to help your children understand how important it is to point out any stains they get on their clothing during the school day.  Grass stains and mud stains are also two that need treated as soon as possible.

Back to School Tips Part Three

Its that time again….Back To School!  Can you remember what that was like when you were a kid?  The excitement at seeing your friends everyday and getting into a regular routine even though it meant summertime was just about over.  One of the biggest excitements for most kids is buying the new clothing and school supplies. Getting this season off to a great start for the whole family means getting organized now.  Last blog post we began offering up some basic tips for this back to school time.  This post will continue with some really great tips to keep it as stress free and calm as it can possibly be.

This is a good time to begin the journey by cleaning out and purging the closets. This means empty it all out and give it a really good cleaning top to bottom.  This will create a clean slate and give you a good chance to organize and get ready for the year ahead.  Have your child try on each item of clothing to determine if it still fits.  Check for rips, tears, and any spots.  Then decide if it can be repaired and used or if it needs to be tossed.  Make a list as you go of any clothing or uniforms you will need to purchase for your child.  This can also be a good time to look for closet organizers that will help make your morning routine easier.  Some will allow for choosing an outfit per day so items are ready each morning.

Extend this closet cleaning to the rest of the home.  Hall closets and mudrooms will also need a good cleaning and purging.  Adding hooks for backpacks and jackets will keep them off the floor.  A shoe tray for wet and muddy shoes will be a great asset.  Sports gear also needs a storage place and then you will not trip every time you come in the door. No more chaotic, unorganized dumping ground!

Once this is done make your shopping list.  Go out to the school website and check for any change in uniform policy or dress codes.  School supply list should also be available.  Taking the time to make a really defined list means the trip will go smoother and you will get everything your child needs in less time.  It will also allow you to take advantage of all the great back to school sales and state tax free weekends.

Establish a good place for children to do their homework every day.  Somewhere that allows for supervision while you prepare dinner or do chores is best.  A desk with drawers or a place to keep extra paper, pencils, etc.  is great.  Make the kids responsible for keeping things organized at the homework station.  They also need to immediately put their books, supplies, and completed homework back into their backpacks when done.

Back to School Tips Part Two

Welcome back! We are here to talk more about tips for getting ready to go back to school! If you missed our previous blog, be sure to visit it, as well before moving on.

Tips for Back To School! | Coin-Op Laundry Raleigh NC

Go ahead and take a look at your child’s School Website.  Most of them will already have loads of information for you about back to school.  You can find things like:

  1. What are the hours of school to be for the upcoming year.
  2. Whose class will your child be in and the teachers name.
  3. If your school requires uniforms, are there any changes?
  4. A upcoming years school calendar with start dates and holidays marked.
  5. Lunchroom information and pricing.
  6. School Supplies lists by grade and teacher.
  7. Bus information
  8. After School Care Information

We also know that once you have bought your kids school supplies you want them to be able to keep up with them.  As you and your children shop for their school supplies talk to them about the high cost of the items and the cost to replace them if they are lost.  This is a good time to begin to look for a labeling system to mark your kids items.  You have a better chance of recovering misplaced jackets, notebooks, etc. if they are labeled with your child’s information.

Look for a really good calendar that you will put to use.  A dry erase one works really well for having a clean slate every month.  Once you have it use a different color for each child.  Then at a glance you will know what is on board each day for each family member.  Have a place for everyone to write down any changes that need to be made and a shopping list can also be included for writing down things the family runs out of.  This can be tweaked to suit your families needs as you go.  Now two families are alike!

Hopefully these tips will get you started on developing the back to school routine you need.  Our next blog post will give even more tips to help you remain as stress free as possible.

Back to School Tips Part One

It’s really hard to imagine but back to school time is already upon us.  By now most of us are trying to get in those last minute vacations, swim in the pool, lay around in the summer sun, and generally get in those great summertime activities that will begin to close out over the next month or so.  Over the next two blog posts we are going to offer up some really great tips for getting the kids (and you) ready for back to school.

Back to School Tips | Coin Laundry Raleigh NC

It can seem overwhelming to get ready, get back on a proper schedule, and get organized but we can sympathize and believe these tips will help save your sanity in the coming weeks.

One of the first things to do is look at your kids bedtime routine.  It’s likely the bedtime schedule has gone by the wayside during the summer vacation.  Staying up really late watching movies or playing video games is the norm.

Sleeping in later also wrecks havoc on the routine.  This is just part of the normal summer break from school.  All parents know that kids need their sleep once school starts.  If they do not get the proper amount then  their grades will be affected and so will the emotions that will follow.  To help them (and you) get ready for the change in bedtime begin now.  Start putting the school days routine back into your day.  A little bit at a time until a week before school starts.

You can start by curtailing the later hours about 15 minutes or so over a few days time then increase the time until the week before school is to begin.  Do this with the morning wake up time also.  This will gently condition them back to a more normal routine.  Children from ages 3-12 need about 10-12 hours sleep a night.  Ages 12-18 need at least 8-9 hours.

Hopefully these tips will get you started on developing the back to school routine you need.  Our next blog post will give even more tips to help you remain as stress free as possible.

Let’s face it!  We are very busy families these days.  Between jobs, school, shuffling kids to after school activities, and sports we have little time to address chores at home.  One of the biggest chores for us is the laundry.  We know how that tends to pile up while we are kept busy doing other things.  Laundry is one of those seemingly endless household necessities we really wish we could do something about.  Well you can!  There is a way to give that chore to someone else and gain more free time for you and your family.  This blog post offers up the benefits of this great service and why it might be an affordable option for you!

Benefits | Wash Dry Fold Raleigh NC

The biggest benefit to using Wash Dry Fold in Raleigh NC is in the huge amount of time you will save each week.  Simply gathering up all your dirty laundry and then dropping them by your laundromat of choice is so easy.  Once they have your clothes cleaned, dried, and folded, you drop in again and pick them up!  This is about as easy as it gets.  The staff of your chosen laundromat will wash and dry your clothes.  They will then pack them in plastic ready for you to take them home.

If you are concerned about the affordability of such a convenience, don’t be.  Most of your local laundromats offering this Wash Dry Fold in Raleigh NC will charge by the pound.  If you take the time to compare and calculate the actual cost of doing the laundry yourself with the amount your laundromat charges you will find that it is about equal.

Another added benefit is that you will not have to buy washing detergent, fabric softeners, bleach, spot cleaner, etc.  If you are lucky enough to live near a larger city some of these laundromats will offer a pick up and delivery service saving you the trip to their facility.  Now that is true convenience.

Take the time to do the proper homework associated with picking a good laundromat.  The one to look for is one that offers all kinds of services such as treatment of various kinds of stains.  A dry-cleaning service will be a plus for those items you would not want to wash normally.  Laundering services for larger size bedding and bulky things like winter coats will also be handy.
