Things To Deep Clean In The New Year Part Two

By now the holidays are done and we know you are taking down the decorations and storing them away until next year. We are beginning a New Year and our attention turns to cleaning up our home after all the parties and fun. Last post we began offering tips for deep cleaning our homes. We are concentrating on a few key areas of the home. These areas need our attention and when done we can relax and settle into the winter months.

Deep Cleaning in the New Year! | Coin-Op Laundry Raleigh NC

Head into your bathrooms. With extra guests over the holidays and the regular family traffic, your bathrooms will more than likely need a lot of attention. Give your shower a deep cleaning by spraying it down with a good all purpose cleaner. Please be aware of the fumes in a closed in space. There are some really good non-toxic fume free cleaners on the market today so be sure to find one. Allow this to soak for 5 minutes and then use a nonabrasive sponge to clean off the soap and residue that has accumulated. A great tip for you is to do this while you are showering. Soap is soap and if you clean one wall each time you shower it will stay much cleaner.

After the shower is clean, give your toilets a good scrub. Make sure to clean the outside all the way around. Do the sinks and cabinets as well and put out fresh towels. This will make you feel the room is fresh and back to normal.

This is also a great time to give your carpets a good cleaning. If you arrange for a professional cleaning then get on the schedule before the holidays. This means when its all over you are already scheduled and ahead of the game. If you choose to clean them yourself then you can use baking soda. Just sprinkle it onto the carpets and leave at least an hour. Vacuum as usual. You can repeat this as many times as needed to get your carpet smelling great.

In the bedrooms, this is the perfect time to have your comforters and other quilts cleaned. Most home machines cannot accommodate large bedding so check out a great laundry facility in your area to have them professionally cleaned. Some laundromats have larger washers so that you can do this yourself. When drying use some tennis balls in the dryer to fluff your comforter back up!

In the laundry room, we are certain your washer and dryer can use some attention. We tend to think something that cleans with water should be clean. Detergent buildup and mineral deposits must be cleaned from your washer. To do this add 2 cups of vinegar to the washer. Then add 1 cup of baking soda to the detergent cup. Run the washer on its longest cycle using cold water. While this is cycling use some all purpose cleaner and a microfiber cloth to clean the outside of your machines. Vacuum the dryer lint catcher inside and out. Lint buildup is a big cause of a fire. Use a specially made tool to get this really cleaned out at least every few months.

Things To Deep Clean In The New Year Part One

It is hard to believe that very quickly now the holiday season will be behind us and a new year will begin. Many of us use the storing away of the season’s decorations to do a good deep cleaning of our home. There is something satisfying about getting ready to snuggle into the winter by feeling our home is cleaned and ready for the long winter months. This post will offer up some great tips for giving your overlooked areas a really great deep clean. This will hopefully start the New Year of 2018 off to an awesome start for you and your family. Remember to take your time and tackle one thing at a time.

Deep Cleaning Tips | Coin Laundry Raleigh NC

The first thing we suggest to get the ball rolling is to tackle the fridge. There is bound to be leftover holiday foods and of course spills and what not all over the inside. Toss out all the leftovers and then from top to bottom use a cloth and an all-purpose cleaner to clean each shelf. Remove stuff from the shelves first to ensure you get every crumb and spill. We suggest doing this prior to your weekly re-stock of groceries to make the job a little easier. Once the inside is cleaned up turn your attention outside the fridge. Unplug the fridge from the outlet and pull it away from the wall. Using your vacuum cleaners brush tool clean the coils. Many refrigerators come with a front removable grille where you can access the coils from the front. Once this is done plug it back in, push it back into place, then give the outside a good wash down to remove sticky prints from the outside.

Next turn your attention to that much-used oven. All those recipe spillovers are still there and need attention. Do not be scared of this seemingly tough chore. Today’s oven cleaners are much more gentle than those of years past. If you are really sensitive to the fumes or have skin sensitivities then you can make a paste of 1 tablespoon of dishwashing soap, 1/2 cup of baking soda, and enough water to make it the consistency of toothpaste. Rub this mixture into all of the spills and grime on the bottom and the side walls of your oven. Leave this mixture to soak for at least 5 minutes. Wipe it clean with a wet cloth. If you prefer there are other commercial oven cleaners on the market that are fume free and gentle.

While in the kitchen look at your cabinets. After a holiday cooking frenzy, there are more than likely splatters, fingerprints, and oil accumulation on them. Regular dish soap works well to degrease and clean the surface of your cabinets safely. Just use soapy water and a microfiber cloth to get hem cleaned up quickly. Make sure to give the hardware some attention. The inside edge and corners also need your attention as well.

Tips for Future Moms at the Laundromat

Becoming a new mom brings so much joy. Babies are so exciting and getting ready for them is so much fun. Once you are home and the daily routine gets started you may find that your workload is not so much fun. Chores and everyday tasks can become overwhelming pretty quickly. While you are waiting for your baby to get here things can get just as difficult. Your baby bump will begin to get in the way of getting your chores done. Laundry will more than likely be one of those chores. This post will offer you ways to stay safe and get your chores done quickly and easily while you are pregnant.

Tips for New Moms | Laundry Services Raleigh NC

One of the first things an expectant mom will notice is being more tired than normal. When the normal fatigue sets in it may be more difficult for you to carry laundry. Expectant moms should never carry heavy loads of anything, even laundry. You could easily slip, fall, or cause another injury to yourself. Divide and conquer instead. Take smaller loads that are lighter to the laundromat. A great tip is to never allow your laundry to get out of control. Keeping on top of this chore will be crucial to you as a new mom.

While you are pregnant is a great time to check out area laundromats. Laundromats can help you get multiple loads of clothes done in much less time. Check out your local ones to see which one you prefer and when is the least busy time. Going during slower times means you won’t have to wait on machines. This will help you get done as quickly as possible. You can also check out the various services each one offers to see what will work best for you and your family.

One of the nesting things expectant mothers like to do is get the baby’s clothes clean and ready for the arrival. A good time to start washing them would be about a month before your delivery date. Use a high quality detergent specifically designed for baby clothes. One formulated for baby’s sensitive skin is what you are looking for. Take care to not overload the washer because this can cause detergent residue to remain on baby’s clothes. This can cause irritation on a newborn’s delicate skin.

Believe it or not, the laundromat can be a getaway for you, especially if you have more children. It’s some quiet relaxation time you might just need away from your busy life. While the wash is going you can read a book, catch up on emails, do the bills, or just sit and relax. Whatever you want that couple of hours to be, just make sure you take what you need with you.

We hope that these tips will make your laundromat experience easier during your pregnancy. It will be a great time in your life and you should enjoy every moment of it!

Winter Organizational Tip Part 4

Over the last few blog posts we have addressed some important winter organizational tips you will find useful. We first looked at the outdoors and how to clean up and assess our yards and landscaping before the ice and snow hit. This helps us to be ready for holiday decorating as well. We also looked at changing our wardrobe over from summer to winter wear. This we noted is a great time to clean out the closets and organize them to work for us. This post will look at the rest of the home. We hope you will find some great tips here for getting your home winter ready.

Tips from the Best Laundromat in Raleigh NC!

One of the best places to begin your winter organization is in the mudroom or entryway. This is where the family will deposit wet boots and outerwear. Scarves, gloves, and hats will be left here as well. Take a good look at this designated area and try to imagine ways to control the chaos before it happens. This can be a simple hook organizer or as elaborate as a cabinet system. Whichever way will work best for you must be addressed before the weather changes. Teach your family to hang wet items immediately. Wet boots and shoes need a place to stay while drying so invest in a couple of shoe trays.

The laundry room is another area that can be effective for you if you get it as organized as possible. Many laundry rooms are usually small compared with other rooms in your home. So, one of the most efficient ways to organize and store the things you need is to look up. Installing cabinets or hanging shelves will increase your storage space considerably. When choosing cabinetry look for some that offer baskets that insert as well. This will help you organize the family’s laundry as well. This will make getting the laundry done much more efficient and keep the stress down as well.

If you use your laundry room to store mops, a vacuum cleaner and other cleaning equipment, designate a wall or center to keep like-items together. You can find many different hooks and removable hanging systems to use to organize them. Hanging a sturdy rack on your wall high enough to hold brooms and mops will keep them up and out of your way. Organize your cleaners on one shelf and store small items, such as rags and sponges, in closed containers that are stackable, to make the best use of your space. Transparent plastic is an excellent choice because it allows you to see what’s inside. You can label the boxes so that you know what is inside them. Using another wall, hang an ironing center by installing a specially designed rack to hold your ironing board and iron. Some racks even have a space to store a can of spray starch. This is a great way to keep your space clean and efficient.

Winter Organizational Tips Part 3

In our last post, we began the conversation about getting our homes ready, inside and out, for the coming winter. This is the perfect time to get your home deep cleaned and organized before the holidays. This will cut down on your stress and anxiety and help you to enjoy this much slower pace. This post will look at things you can do to be as ready as possible.

Organizational Tips from Our Raleigh Laundromat

We all need time to get some things organized in our homes and the extra time we will be indoors during this season is a great time to tackle projects you have been putting off. Most of us have limited closet space. As you get ready to switch your wardrobe over from summer wear to winter wear cleaning out and organizing closets will be easier. Begin by taking everything out of a closet. Once it is emptied give it a thorough cleaning. Take a look at what the space is lacking. This would be the time to visit a container store to see what you might find to help you organize your clothing better.

A good closet organizational system can give you loads more room. Measure your closet space carefully before shopping so that you know what will fit. Shelving that adjusts, along with shoe organizers and places for your accessories are must have items. Be sure to paint the inside of your closet first if needed.

Baskets, and plastic bins can also help you get more organized. Purchase see thru shoe boxes and then you can stack them to keep them up and out of your way. Baskets can hold sweaters and all of your accessories. Make sure to get a great laundry basket to keep your dirty laundry contained and easily accessed for laundry day.

As you clean out and re-arrange make a box for things to give away, one for throw away, and one for re-homing. Examine your clothing carefully for rips, stains, and other irreparable things and place them in the throw away box. For items you no longer wear or find attractive out these in your giveaway box. Take these to a clothing closet or thrift store immediately. Don’t allow them back in to your closets for any reason. For things that need a new home, figure out where they are best stored.

Once you have your wardrobe under control turn your attention to things that need a cleaning. Winter outerwear that has been stored for many months may need a cleaning before you put them back into service. Check your labels for how to wash and dry them. If they need to be dry cleaned this is the perfect time to drop them off. That colder weather will be here before you know it! Also check your mittens, scarves, and hats.  Make sure they are serviceable and clean for the season. Taking proper care of them before storing will help alleviate holes and stains. Many of these can be hand-washed or laundered in the washer on a gentle cycle. Line drying is best so that shrinkage does not occur.
