Fluff and Fold Raleigh NC: Reduce Static Cling!

Welcome back! Our fluff and fold in Raleigh NC is back with a few more tips on dealing with static cling naturally! In our last post we talked about how annoying static cling can be during fall and winter. We also offered a few tips for getting rid of static charges in and around your home, when possible! Today, we have a few more tips!

Though we all love them, it’s best to ditch dryer sheets if you have a problem getting rid of static cling. Laundry product companies have conditioned us to believe that we need to buy dryer sheets to get rid of static. Sadly, that isn’t the case. In fact, research from the University of Washington found the sheets spewed toxic chemicals and caused breathing problems and irritated skin. To save money and protect your health while knocking out static in your clothing, add ¼ cup of white vinegar to your wash’s rinse cycle.

If you make the decision to stop using dryer sheets, you might want to consider banishing fabric softeners, as well. Chemical fabric softeners do help to get rid of static cling in clothes, but research has found they also contaminate your indoor air quality. Many common, scented fabric softeners emit plastic chemicals and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that can lead to hormone disruption, inflammation, and respiratory problems. If you want to keep using fabric softeners, forget the conventional brands and look for unscented, plant-based ones as an alternative. For an all-natural alternative that’s cheap, try adding ½ cup of baking soda to your wash cycle, to help reduce static cling and freshen your laundry even more!

Another great tip? Hanging your clothes out to dry on a clothes line outside will help immensely! If you can’t hang your clothing out on a line to dry, shake each item out as soon as you pull them from the dryer to prevent static from setting in.
