- Before you wash and dry your clothing, be sure to go through each and every item. Look for damaged clothing, missing buttons, or holes. Discard any items that have damages. It’s better to do this now, than later. It can save time in the long run.
- As you are looking for damaged clothing, also look for clothing you no longer wear regularly. Of course, there are a few essential wardrobe pieces we don’t wear often but need for special occasions, but it’s important to eliminate any basics that you don’t wear often enough. If you didn’t wear it at all during that particular season, donate it!
- Be sure to keep out key transitional pieces that will help the summer to fall weather change be a bit more bearable. Remember that cool mornings and evenings often accompany blazing hot days. Keep a few short sleeved shirts or tanks that can easily be covered with a sweater. Also, be sure to keep out any shoes that might be useful during a transitional weather pattern.
- When you’re ready, pack all clothing and bedding in an air-tight, plastic container. Anything else will allow unwanted pests into your clothing.
- If at all possible, keep clothing and bedding stored in a place that you can easily reach, should you need something stored in the containers quickly.
