Preparing Your Closet For Spring Part 2

Raleigh LaundromatHere in the South, it has been a long, wet, and bitterly cold winter!  Warm, toasty, layers are what we have wanted to wear to keep us warm especially on snowy windy days.  Many of us have lived in our super comfy pants and long sleeved tees more than we would like to admit.  We might dress in our more professional clothes during the day to go to our jobs but as soon as we are home its back to the warm and toasty wear once again.

Prepping Our Closets for Spring | Raleigh Laundromat

As February comes to a close however our attention turns to the promise of warmer spring like temperatures and that of course will mean a change in the status of our wardrobe.

As the frost begins to melt and the sun shines a little brighter, the temps will begin to get warmer and those warm and toasty yoga pants will no longer be needed.  We will need to turn our attention to preparing our closets for spring/summer wear.  Now is a great time to turn our attention to getting our closet clean and organized and ready for a season change.  This will mean taking stock of our winter wardrobe before we begin to pack it away for the warmer months.  Even if your closet is large enough for all of your clothing all seasons, you will need to move things around.

Begin to look over your winter sweaters.  Check them closely for pulls, stains, or any holes that might have happened over the season.  Does it still fit you well and do you still love it?  The biggest question is did you wear it at all this season?  If not pull it out and begin a container of items you will purge from your warm weather clothing that either needs to be given away or tossed out.  It is also a really good time to make yourself a list of things you will want to replace for next fall/winter and shop the clearance sales that will begin really soon.  If you make your list now while its fresh on your mind you will be ready for next fall/winter.  If you need a big ticket item such as a new winter coat or maybe some new boots then you can save for that purchase over the next months.

Begin to take stock of your spring/summer clothing.  Many items in your wardrobe can transition from season to season.   Organize these items together so that you can find them quickly as the weather changes.  Skirts can be worn without heavy tights. Tees can be layered with a lighter cardigan.  Before you know it Capri pants, and ankle pants will begin to be the norm.  Winter boots and shoes can begin to be moved to higher up shelves as the weather improves and sandals and flats moved to a more convenient location.

As you begin to move your clothing around, hang things together such as shorts, pants, and tops.  This way you can quickly see where you are lacking items that you will need.  This will help you make purchase as stores begin to change inventory. Another good idea is to create at least 10 outfits for work and play that you can reach for in a hurry and then some for special occasions.  The goal is to use as many items as possible that you currently own.  This ensures that you are wearing every item of clothing in your closet and that you love them.    If not then those remaining items will need to go!
